About
Clach Mara Sauna is a wood-fired, mobile sauna inspired by the wild beauty of the North Coast of Scotland. We believe in the power of nature, community, and heat therapy as part of balance and wellbeing.
Our sauna experiences invite you to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect — with yourself, with others, and with the natural world around you. Whether you’re plunging into the sea after a session, joining a community event, or simply taking some time for yourself in this wild & beautiful place, Clach Mara Sauna offers a space to unwind, reflect, and recharge.
Rooted in simplicity and inspired by the landscape, we aim to create mindful, restorative experiences for everyone wherever the sauna travels.
Why Clach Mara?
Inspired by the rugged beauty of the Caithness coastline, Clach Mara - meaning "Stone of the Sea" in Gaelic - reflects the raw power of this boundary between stone and sea. Using these elements, this sauna enables wellness from heat, stone, and sea, immersing you in the hot and cold for a refreshing experience.
Behind Clach Mara
“Hello, I'm Caorann. Born & raised in the Highlands, I’ve now settled in Caithness and called it home for the last 2-years. During that time I have been enjoying life as a keen surfer, design engineer, and outdoor enthusiast. Along the way, I discovered a deep passion for sauna, wellness, community, and the power of connection with nature & the outdoors.
Towards the end of 2024, I decided to bring these passions together with the aim of bringing a new experience to Caithness - a hand-built, one-of-a-kind, mobile wood-fired sauna. Using my background in engineering and design, along with a fortunate mix of creative skills passed down to me, I set to work. Within six months, this big, beautiful sauna was on the road, travelling the coastline and welcoming people to slow down, warm up, and reconnect.
I can’t take all the credit though, and this project wouldn’t have been possible without the unconditional support of my friends and family (you know who you are), Ross at Glass & Grain Saunas, and funding from Highlands & Islands Enterprise. I am so grateful - thank you all for helping make this dream a reality!”
